Mahrez showed Spurs inverted wingers how to play the role

TRANSFER TALK

The writer at HITC has shown us a prime example of a lack of understanding of the game today and indeed top level sport of any kind.

It would be a waste of money and a big mistake buying last season's Premier League Player of the Year. The reasoning being that he is just a one season wonder.

Riyad Mahrez is another example of a player who, when motivated produces outstanding football. You will recall last season when we played them early in the season at their place and gifted them a late goal, he stood out.

I wrote at the time that he had given our wide men a lesson in how to play tthe role and the 26-year-old (27 next February) went on to produce week after week. This season the side, for whatever reason, didn't want to play under title winning manager Claudio Ranieri and as a result didn't perform.

That is the sole reason for them not performing, not a lack of ability, a lack of desire. It was exactly the same at Chelsea last season after Jose Mourinho came down hard on the first team doctor Eva Carneiro. The players took her side and simply didn't perform for him. If the author, therefore, suggesting that Eden Hazard isn't a decent player simply because he didn't perform when he didn't want to?

Once Ranieri left, he then has to adapt to a new system and the requirements of a new manager, not knowing what the long-term future holds. You don't just lose skill, all he needs is the right environment and the right system to produce it.

Like it or not, mentality is everything, not mentally right you don't perform. The only question you have to ask about Mahrez is would he be mentally motivated at Spurs. If the answer is yes then he has the game that suits our style and he is a prolific goalscorer when he has that motivation.
