Matthijs de Ligt

TRANSFER TALK

Tottenham are said to be chasing 17-year-old (18 in August) Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt along at least with half a dozen other clubs including Premier League sides Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal.

The 17-year-old Ajax defender inexplicably made his full international debut for Holland in March against Bulgaria and had a nightmare of a game. He was at fault for both goals and was substituted at half-time as Holland lost the World Cup qualifier 2-0. The kid had only played just 197 minutes of Eredivisie football.

The Dutch press couldn't understand it, the Dutch public couldn't understand it. The Dutch are now struggling to qualify for the next World Cup having missed out of the last European Championships.

His is right-footed so in our defence would be a right-sided centre-back or either right-sided or central in a back three and is under contract at Ajax until 2019.
