TRANSFER TALK

Wylan Cyprien is a 22-year-old (23 next January) French Under-21 International who currently plays as a central midfielder for Ligue 1 club Nice.

Spurs are said to be tracking him along with a host of other sides including Newcastle United, Sunderland, Arsenal, Everton, Southampton and Leicester City from the UK. This season in the French league he has hit 8 goals with a further 3 assists in 29 games, but is now out injured for the rest of the season with a Cruciate Ligament rupture.

He has represented France from Under-16 level where he gained 9 caps, scoring 2 goals, Under-18's 5 caps, Under-19's 3 caps, Under-21's 2 caps, 1 goal). He is under contract at Nice until 2021.

Our purchases from the French league in recent years have not been very successful, but perhaps that is down to poor recruitment rather than a lack of ability within the league. Capoue, Stambouli, N'jie and now N'Koudou haven't exactly set the world alight for us, although Higo Lloris has been a fantastic acquisition.

Mario Balotelli, who joined third-placed Nice on the last day of the summer transfer window, told RMC radio recently that the French league was physical and tactical, that the Italian league was had better organisation and refereeing while the Premier League was, and would always be, the best league in the world.

He has been impressed with Cyprien and feels he will stay one more season before moving on to become a top player. he only joined in the summer from relegated Lens and has been a revaluation this season. He has played sitting in front of a back three in a 3-5-2 formation and has orchestrated play from deep.

This scouting report gives a good account of his game.
