Vorm pushing Lloris to improve

Vorm pushing Lloris to improve, Davies pushing Rose, Trippier pushing Walker

Ben Davies spoke after signing a new contract to keep him at the club until 2021 about how he and Danny Rose push each other in training to improve each day, each week, each month. That is exactly the kind of mental approach we are looking for.

Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm have the same sort of relationship and they too are pushing each other hard in training. Lloris when he arrived was making a mistake a game and since then has produced some quite brilliant saves.

Michel Vorm looked shaky when he arrived and the defence couldn't have felt comfortable with him behind them. We supporters certainly weren't confident when we saw his name on the teamsheet. Now though he has improved considerably and his game coming off his line as a sweeper keeper is unrecognisable from what it was. His confidence has grown and so has ours so his signing of a new contract recently was welcome.

At right-back we have Kieran Trippier putting in some wonderful crosses and Kyle walker has had to up his game, while Walker and Rose both push each other to produce more in attack too.

These little competitions are healthy and are what keep players on their toes. A player who isn't pushing another is actually allowing his rival to have an easy time and perhaps not be as good as he could be if he were pushed to improve.

Who is pushing Georges-Kevin N'Koudou? Cetainly not Moussa Sissoko or Erik Lamela. Some player don't respond to a challenge, they go in to their shell. Josh Onomah seems to have stagnated and doesn't look like the player we first saw, Tom Carroll didn't improve and has now left, nor did Ryan Mason.

Weeding is part and parcel of football and there will need to be some done during the summer. There isn't long left for a few players to show the attitude we want.
