Talisca a cheap option

TRANSFER TALK

In March 2015 we were reported as trying to sign 23-year-old (24 next February) Brazilian attacking midfielder Talisca, who can also play as a forward. It is a dual role that Son Heung-min operates at Tottenham at the moment. He has excellent movement and Mauricio Pochettino has been keeping an eye on the Brazilian who could provide similar attributes.

He plays for Turkish club Beşiktaş, on loan from Portuguese side Benfica, but there is a purchase option in the loan agreement that keeps him at Beşiktaş until 2018. His contract with Benfica runs until 2019 so while we are keeping an eye on him, he is a player who may not become available. If he does then it will be with just a year left on his contract and therefore available for a bargain fee.

Liverpool tried to sign him before that deal fell through according to reports in Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, who claimed the fee was £20 million (€23.06m - AUS$32.24m - US$24.80m).

That figure looks dubious as he went to Turkey on a two-year loan deal for £1.7 million (€1.96m - AUS$2.74m - US$2.11m) instead with the same paper reporting he has a £6.50 million (€7.5m - AUS$10.49m - US$8.06m) purchase clause. That would take his total cost to £7.12 million (€9.46m - AUS$13.23m - US$10.17m) and the paper suggests the Turkish champions are not prepared to meet that price.

I suspect the £20 million was, in fact, his inflated buyout clause (very common in Portuguese football contracts) and was possibly meant to be euros and not pounds, our press does have a tendency not to bother converting currency.

O Jogo also suggest that Italian side Lazio are interested together with several European clubs, but doesn't name them. He has 9 goals and 5 assists in 23 games this season.
