Spurs linked Timo Werner to stay in Germany

TRANSFER TALK

With the breaking news this morning that Alexandre Lacazette has agreed to join Atletico Madrid this summer attention needs to be turned elsewhere to find help for Harry Kane.

BREAKING NEWS: Lacazette has agreed to join Griezmann at Atletico Madrid

I have looked at a few of the potential strikers we are scouting and the spotlight this time is turned to a player we tried to sign last summer, a player who is expected to develop into a striker who could lead the line for Germany.

The man in question this time is 21-year-old (22 next March) Timo Werner who joined newly promoted RB Leipzig in the summer and has thrived as a result, with the surprise package of the Bundesliga sitting in second place, having led the league ahead of Bayern Munich prior to the new year.

Werner lost his way at former club Stuttgart and had issues with the coach. He lost form and didn't score many goals having been a very highly thought of youngster. Werner spoke with German Sunday newspaper Welt am Sonntag and suggested he as staying at his present club.

"I want to keep growing together with RB Leipzig and keep developing here. I am still only 21 years old and still have plenty of years ahead of me.
"I am very happy at Leipzig. Joining this club has been a stroke of luck. I have found my way again under Ralph Hasenhuttl."

Werner-Consultant Karlheinz Förster confirmed to daily newspaper Bild that her client was interesting Premier League clubs but would be staying at RB Leipzig.

"The interest of clubs from the island [England] in general is there. The English are everywhere in the Bundesliga, scout and watch intensively. And Timo has of course made himself even more interesting with his performances and goals in Leipzig. Werner is still in Leipzig until 2020 under contract. He has no exit clause."
