Hugo Lloris was ill so wasn't in the Tottenham squad for the visit to Sunderland. Michel Vorm had his first Premier League start since August and Danny Rose had to come off injured after 37 minutes.

Sunderland started with a back five at the Stadium of Light for Mauricio Pochettino's 99th game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur. The Spurs full-backs were very prominent for the first half an hour with Walker and Rose both getting into the opposition penalty area.

As is often the case with us, we looked like we might make a chance any minute but last-ditch defending denied us a shooting chance. Son Heung-min was getting into some good positions but his first touch let him down on a couple of occasions, firstly from a Toby Alderweireld long ball and secondly from a quick Harry Kane throw-in. On both occasions he was behind their defensive line.

Sunderland have had the better chances, particularly with the long ball up to short man Defoe causing us problems. Probably fortunate to go in 0-0, but then perhaps Sunderland were lucky to have 11 men still on the field after Rodwell simply hacked Mousa Dembele down as he was breaking in a counter-attack.

The second half was all Spurs, probing but never creating the clear-cut chance except for a Wanyama header that he put over the bar. Our final ball wasn't good enough in a packed penalty area and our shooting from outside the box was poor.

Fortunately for us Arsenal lost at home to Watford 2-1 and so we move back into second place on goal difference, ours is +3 better than theirs.

    Pleased to see Sonny finally fitting into the pattern of play…though a sweet first touch continues to allude him.
    Where’s Kane?
    Second half:
    Déjà vu.
    Where’s Kane?
    Après Ski:
    Dembele & Son, both of whom were playing well (Dembele especially), are substituted to subsidise the side’s mascot who’s done sweet F A all game!
    Postscript:
    72% possession and no goals says it all.
    In view of the results elsewhere an important opportunity missed.
  3. Kane's the one up front on his own, getting no service what so ever and being marked by 5 at the back. We started way to slow with Son,Eriksen and Ali not able to create or impose thenselves on the game. Son & Erikson are very light when it comes to putting their feet into a tackle. In my opinion they are to hit or miss to be starting together.
    We speeded up and were much better the second half but away from home you can't miss sitters.
