Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign 26-year-old (27 in March) Bruno Peres in the summer. He plays as a right-back or right winger. As is often the case with South American footballers, who often have third party owners not allowed in the Premier League, his first move from Barzil was to Italy. His choice of club Torino and last summer he moved to Roma on loan with an obligation to purchase.

It was while with Torino that we made our move for him. The player himself revealed our interest and that of rivals Manchester City to the Brazilian edition of Goal.

“There were a lot of things, some concrete offers… There was Manchester City, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Milan. They were interested but found resistance from the president of Torino, who is a very complicated guy.
“Soon after, Rome showed up, a club that had shown an interest in my signing in the previous window. A great club, structured, with a lot of history, where you could continue growing your career without having to make a new radical change of life.”

We are well covered at right-back with Kyle Walker and his able understudy Kieran Trippier so we may have been looking at him as a right sided inverted winger, initially to alternate with Argentinian Erik Lamela. With the failure of £30 million Moussa Sissoko to make a consistent impression on the right and the continued absence of Erik Lamela, who must be a candidate to be sold this summer, it is an area of some concern.
