Spurs don't want Ranocchia

Let's clear up the confusion over reported Tottenham Hotspur interest in unwanted Inter Milan centre-back Andrea Ranocchia.

The 28-year-old (29 in February) Italian international is not wanted by Inter Milan who are trying to sell him, the trouble is there is little interest in him. He has been given just 381 minutes of Serie A football this season, under five full games.

His agent has been travelling around trying to drum up business and identified three clubs in the Premier League who might like his services, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Everton.

The agent then travelled to the UK to meet the three and try to sell the idea why each should buy his client. None of the three clubs were interested. We were simply a suggestion on their part because of the injury to Vertonghen, it wasn't a case of ourselves actively trying to buy the player as has been misreported.

The agent was simply doing his job and felt a face-to-face meeting might be of benefit. The whole industry relies on agents talking to clubs all the time about future plans and their clients future plans. It is very much a networking industry that fortunately still prefers the personal approach. That one client wouldn't be the only thing both sides discussed.

The latest stories are that he wishes to stay at Inter Milan, strange that story should appear at the end of a window where nobody wants to buy him!
