Will we have to wait until Chelsea to see Alderweireld?

When-will-Alderweireld-return

First he suffers a freak muscle injury to his knee that keeps him out for a total of 10 games in all competitions, of which we only won two.

He missed UEFA Champions League games against:
Bayer Leverkusen home (L 0-1)
Bayer Leverkusen away (D 0-0)
Monaco away (L 2-1)

He missed Premier League games against:
Bournemouth away (D 0-0)
Leicester City home (D 1-1)
Arsenal away (D 1-1)
West Ham United home (W 3-2)
Chelsea away (L 2-1)
Swansea City home (W 5-0)

He missed the League Cup tie against:
Liverpool away (L 2-1)

He returns for two games and then is out with what we are told is a minor back problem for the Burnley game. Alderweireld then visits hospital to bring presents and Christmas cheer to the children in the ward and we are told he misses the Southampton game with a virus.

Visiting and giving presents to the children at Whittington Hospital yesterday! 🎁🎄🎁

There is a virus going round at the moment. Mauricio Pochettino did clarify the position though.

“We hope he will be available against Watford because today he was better. He got a virus, was sick, vomiting, and fever in the last two days. We hope he will be okay.”

Our Belgian centre-back has been dispossessed just once in 10 Premier League starts this season. We have done remarkably well considering his long absence and Eric Dier still learning the position really. If he is vomiting then he is going to be left weak, so he may well not make the Watford game, despite the optimism of our manager. We will need Alderweireld back for the Chelsea game though.
