The 2 questions Meyer wants answers for

TRANSFER TALK

Is Max Meyer the man for Spurs?

You will remember in the summer it was revealed that we had met his father 3 times and there were very real discussions about him coming to Tottenham and as you know that talk has started once again.

This time it isn't stories our press may have invented, this time the news comes from Germany and SportBild who report that Tottenham Hotspur are now prepared to meet the £30M asking price for the Schalke starlet. In the summer he enters the last year of his contract and thus his price tumbles, but then there will be a host of clubs interested in his signature.

If this report is accurate then we are trying to give our squad the fresh injection Mauricio Pochettino feels it needs and beat the competition to a highly-rated playmaker. Naturally, Schalke do not want him to leave, as his coach, Markus Weinzierl, pointed out to the German media.

"It is our job that we constantly think about how we can further develop the team. This also includes keeping the players we developed."

Schalke general manager Christian Heidel has contacted Meyer's, Thorsten Weck, to inform him that Schalke wants Meyer at the club for the long-term. The club will need to secure a contract extension by the summer or they would be in danger of losing him for free, when they could get up to £34.05 million (€40m - AUS$58.30m - US$41.81) now report Bild.

The problem for Schalke is that he wants to play international football and UEFA Champions League football which Schalke do not regularly qualify for. He wants a greater salary too but that isn't the main issue. Will h get regular playing time if he comes to Spurs?

How will the move affect his chances of going to the World Cup in Russia in 2018? These are two big questions he is seeking the answer to and it is the answers that may well, in the end, decide where he is going to be playing his football.
