Ronaldo and Mourinho in Spanish tax scandal

Ronaldo is the latest player to be caught up in tax evasion investigations with Spanish daily El Mundo obtaining information from German daily Der Spiegel as part of the The evidence comes from the so-called "football leaks"— 18.6 million leaked documents.

Ronaldo made €150 million in image rights but paid only €5.6 million in taxes to the Spanish government (4%) because most of the money was hidden in the British Virgin Islands.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was also accused of tax avoidance using offshore accounts. Gestifute is the agency for both of them and they deny any wrongdoing.

"Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho are fully compliant with their tax obligations with the Spanish and British tax authorities."

Jose Enrique Fernandez de Moya, secretary for Spain's tax office, told Spanish radio station COPE the information was correct.

"The information in the hands of the tax office corresponds to that which has been published in the media."

It is expected that from the 18.6 million leaked documents will come more revelations like the one about Toby Alderweireld having a €30 million release clause in his original Tottenham contract. I would expect now he is a success that Daniel Levy would have and would be trying to negotiate that out of any new deal.
