Eriksen shone second half of last season, same again?

There has been a lot of debate among Spurs fans over Christian Eriksen who was watched by all the top clubs when he was at Ajax. It was reported at the time that none of them were quite sure about him and that allowed Tottenham to step in and buy a player who was perhaps good enough to play for one of the top four and major teams in Europe.

By and large that gamble has paid off, he was excellent, especially in the second half of last season and Mauricio Pochettino will be wanting to see that level of performance consistently again as we approach the second half of the season this time around.

"He is an elite player. It's true that he is young and can improve, but I think he is a very good player.

"Does he dominate games enough? That is a challenge for him. Maybe we need to go further and try to assess his personality, character, his position on the pitch, his quality.
"For me he is a player who has a good opportunity from now and into the future. He is a player that will improve a lot. He will get more maturity in the game and realise which aspects he needs to improve to be a top, top, top player.
"Modern football uses different systems for playing offensive opposition, when we're in possession, out of possession, different players in the starting XI. You need clever players, intelligent enough to read the game in every action. Christian plays on the left, on the right, in the middle, deeper, higher.
"When you are in the starting 11 it is because the manager wants you, trusts in you and because the manager believes in you for what he wants to do. That is modern football today."
