Goal difference really puts us in the picture now

SOUTHAMPTON 1 SPURS 4

Southampton-1-Spurs-4

That was a very important win, not just for the three points to match all our rivals, but to improve our goal difference to put us tight in the mix there too.

Chelsea sit top on 46 points with a goal difference of +27
Liverpool are second on 40 points with a goal difference of +24
Manchester City are third on 39 points with a goal difference of +19
Arsenal are fourth on 37 points with a goal difference of +20
Tottenham Hotspur are fifth on 36 points with a goal difference of +20
Manchester United are sixth on 33 points with a goal difference of +9

One point behind Arsenal with the same goal difference and three points behind Manchester City with a better goal difference. The possibility to move third is there depending upon results. that is how tight it is at the moment.

We started very sloppily and once again we struggled against a side who pressed us hard, we regularly don't seem to be able to deal with it at the moment. Once Southampton started to sit back though we started to take control. Our passing around the box looked as though it has a purpose for once. It wasn't just abdicating responsibility, it was crisp and designed to create an opening.

One of those found Sissoko with room to cross and Dele Alli pounced with an alert piece of poaching. From there it was generally all Spurs. A sending off helped us score more at the end, but the result was justified.

  1. Our two holding MFs were ‘mustard’ last night…Wanyama probably edged it on work rate but Mousa was our top tackler with 5.
Much better from Alli…see what can be achieved when you stop the grandstanding.
Not sure about Harry K…went missing for long periods…don’t think he really enjoys playing N° 9 by himself and he’s still hiding behind defenders…the one time he attacks the near post he scores.
Eriksen still flattering to deceive…thank god Sissoko is starting to settle.
I would have expected better from Verts. Now we have a defensive issue against Watford, especially if Toby is not available but I guess Wimmer will step up to the plate…that’s what he’s there for innit.
The conversion rate was excellent last night (4 out of 5) and the goals all came from inside the box.

p.s.Why did S’ton suddenly stop playing once we had scored?
