The bond between fans and the players seems to be stronger than ever. We have dispensed with the fake badge kissing and the players now go over to thank the supporters, as does Mauricio Pochettino. It is no accident but an instruction from Pochettino to maintain and build on the relationship the club has with the fans.

A goalscorer doesn't run to the middle of the field to celebrate, he runs to a section of the crowd and emjoys the moment with them, until his teammates arrive to mob him. Even then though the rest of the players are fist pumping with the fans and celebrating with them. While we have seen touchline celebration before it participation with the crowd has gone up a level.

That results in the crowd getting behind the players more every game. It is all designed to increase the atmosphere, which Dele Alli feels spurs the players on to give that bit more.

On energy from supporters
“I have to say thanks to the fans, their support was fantastic again today and kept us going. If not for them, maybe we wouldn’t be able to press as much as we do. It was a fantastic atmosphere. When they are all screaming like that it’s hard not to run, so it does help. If you start to slip a little, they are right behind you. We have fantastic support here.”
On the international break
“It’s been a great start but we don’t want to get carried away. We have to focus on the next game now, take the positives, work on the negatives and make sure we keep improving. It was important that we got the win going into the international break to keep our confidence up and we’ll just keep plugging away.”
