Jamie Redknapp has been ridiculed by Spurs fans for his comments about Liverpool right-back Cameron Carter-Vickers!
It all rather overshadowed a decent performance from the 18-year-old (19 in December) USA Under-23 international centre-back. It is not hard to see why the club rate him so highly or that he is a Premier League player in the making. He outperformed Kevin Wimmer, who many have been calling for inclusion on his wrong side to replace Toby Alderweireld. He showed tonight the decision to put a right-footed Dier on the right of our centre-back pairing to be the right one.
He could have done better for the first goal, as could Wimmer and probably Vorm. It was a moment they all were not anticipating and were far to reactive in their football. Vorm has to wait that little bit longer and would be expecting his centre-backs to do more than they did. It is moments like that that youngsters learn from, they have to make mistakes to improve, everyone does.
Mauricio Pochettino has no doubts about him.
“I think he can go on to be one of the best defenders in England in the future. He is strong, he has a good mentality, he has all the qualities of a player with a big future.”
'Best young player on the pitch for me is Carter-Vickers the right back for Liverpool' - Jamie Redknapp, 2016.
Always disappointing to lose but if Cameron Carter-vickers and Harry Winks do not have a career at this level I will be amazed.
#thfc Hoped for a bit more from Onomah. He's been a bit tentative so far. Carter-Vickers is looking very capable again though.
Carter-Vickers played well last night. Could push Clyne in months to come.
