Mangala to be filed in the waste paper basket

TRANSFER TALK

'Tottenham are considering a move for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala before Wednesday's transfer deadline, a source close to the club has told ESPN FC.
'If Spurs can agree a difficult deal for the France international centre-back, they will listen to offers for Kevin Wimmer, who signed a new five-year contract last month.'

That was the surprising start of a story using the infamous 'sources' from their freelance journalist which makes sense if we are strengthening the squad maybe but doesn't make sense on other levels. Is he a better centre-back than Wimmer, or that Wimmer can develop into?

He is a 25-year-old (26 next February) French international centre-back who must be on high wages at Manchester City following his move from Porto in 2014 for £32-million (€37.46m - AUS$55.40m - US$42.28m).

The Sun have suggested he is about to join Napoli, the Metro (yes I know) suggest Chelsea, the Mail suggest Porto, it's choose your paper and take your pick.

He isn't going to want to come to Tottenham and sit on a bench behind JanVertonghen and we are not going to pay him big wages to do so, besides which Mauricio Pochettino has already stated we do not need to buy any new centre-back. Financially it makes no sense, but when did that stop a journalist coming up with a story.

From what I can gather Napoli appears to be his destination on loan with an option to buy. he hasn't been able to command a regular spot at City and hasn't stood out as being worth the money paid for him. from what I understand Ciy gave permission for the move last night.

A transfer story to be consigned to the waste paper basket.
