Lamela showing Townsend why he had to leave Spurs

SPURS vs CRYSTAL PALACE

Spurs vs Palace

With Hugo Lloris injured, Vorm took over in goal and 20-year-old Luke NcGee who trains regularly with the main two keepers and acted as back-up to them last season.

Dele Alli was dropped after looking rusty and Vincent Janssen drafted in after the impact he made at Everton last week coming on for the final 27 minutes. Harry Kane took the captain's armband.

The first half showed what I was talking about before the game regarding Townsend and Lamela. Andros Townsend went to sleep in defence and Danny Rose ran round the outside unmarked into the box and receiving the ball he should have had a shot but instead tried tyo beat one more player, which wouldn't have done him any good anyway.

At the other end Lemela was trackiong back and tackling Townsend or anyone else trying to make advances up our left flank. He commitment to his f=defensive work was an example to Townsend of what you need to do and an example of why Townsend couldn't get into the team, eventually being sold.

Christian Eriksen was a disappointment in the first half too. He lost control when we quickly counter attacked and had them outnumbered. A simple ball to Kane and we could easily have gone in front. The same thing was happening last season in these situations and it is an area we need to improve upon. Eriksen could easily have put Walker in overlapping but he chose a cross that didn't beat the first man. He's not on song yet.

We could have been leading at half-time but we are not. Errors of judgementa nd not clinical enough in the final third. Janssen once again looks a quality player and he has the work ethic of Lamela it seems, an excellent addition to our squad. Wanyama, as expected, is putting last seaso's half-hearted performances for Southampton behind him.

Now we need to put this game to bed.
