How the Champions League draw affects Spurs

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

While Tottenham Hotspur may not be in this round of the Champions League draw, it is only for teams who have to go through the play-off route as we had to last time.

We can get a fair idea now of who we might play and we can determine who we would like to win through from the play-off round.

Seeding Pot 1 (by association rank)

Seeding Pot 2

  • Atlético Madrid
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • Arsenal
  • Sevilla
  • Napoli
  • Bayer Leverkusen
  • Plus 2 teams. it isn't clear cut but if Manchester City win they go into Pot 2 as would Porto. If Roma win he I believe Basel would move into Pot 2.
  • If Manchester City lose and Porto lose then both Basel and Tottenham would move into Pot 2

Seeding Pot 2 or 3 (TBD)

  • Basel
  • Tottenham Hotspur

Seeding Pot 3

  • Dynamo Kyiv
  • Lyon
  • PSV Eindhoven
  • Sporting CP
  • If Manchester City and Porto win Basel and Tottenham are in Pot 3. If one loses Basel move to Pot 2 and Tottenham remain in Pot 3. If they both lose Basel and Tottenham move to Pot 2.
  • If Villarreal beat Monaco and Ajax beat Rostov they both go into Pot 3. If either loses then their victor goes into Pot 4 and Club Brugge move into Pot 3.

Seeding Pot 3 or 4 (TB

D) Club Brugge

Seeding Pot 4

  • Beşiktaş
  • Viktoria Plzen or Ludogorets Razgrad
  • FC Salzburg or Dinamo Zagreb
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach or Young Boys
  • Celtic or Hapoel Beer-Sheva
  • APOEL Nicosia or Copenhagen
  • Legia Warsaw or Dundalk
  • In the Group Stages we can not be drawn against any other Premier League team, so there are only 7 sides we can be drawn against from Pot 12 and possibly only 6 sides from Pot 2.
That's the draw as I see it, there is a mass of UEFA coefficients to take into account, but that seems to be the position ahead of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage draw on 25 August.
