The next this, the next that, who this time

SPURS SCOUTING

Last season the Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony revealed that Tottenham were watching one of their young players but wouldn't reveal who it was.

Now Director of Football Barry Fry has though. He says Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all watching teenage midfielder Leonardo Da Silva Lopes.

“The word is out that Leo is a very talented 17 year-old and clubs have been flocking to watch him. We have had no enquiries, never mind bids, but there have been an awful lot of scouts coming to our games just to watch him. Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs are among those to have sent scouts to watch him.”

Lopes is a 17-year-old (18 in November) Portuguese central midfielder who was born in Lisbon. he is the third youngest Peterborough player to make his senior debut, only Matthew Etherington and Charlie Coulson were younger. Etherington had a spell at Tottenham before taking the step down to West Ham.

Coulson left Peterborough for non-league football, he plays for Deeping Rangers in the United Counties League. Not every young talent makes it, it takes more than just talent. Of course, silly people are throwing the next Dele Alli label at him simply because he is a midfield player in League One. Why does every player have to be the next this, the next that, why can't they just be who they are.
