Tello returning to Barcelona for pre-season

Cristian Tello has returned to Barcelona to begin pre-season training with his future still not sorted. Sporting Director Robert Fernandez has brought in three of Luis Enrique's wish list.

Denis Suarez (£2.76m buyback clause from Villarreal)
Samuel Umtiti (£21.25m from Lyon)
Lucas Digne (£14.03m from PSG).

Fernandez has so far managed to sell Dani Alves (Free to Juventus), Marc Bartra (£6.8m to Borussia Dortmund) and Sandro Ramirez (Free to Malaga) but there are another eight players available.

Claudio Bravo - 33-year-old goalkeeper qith 2 years left on his contract
Thomas Vermarlen - 30-year-old centre-back with 3 years left on his contract
Douglas Periera - 25-year-old right-back with 3 years left on his contract
Adriano Correia - 31-year-old left-back with 1 year left on his contract
Cristian Tello - 24-year-old left winger with 2 years left on his contract
Alen Halilovic - 20-year-old attacking-midfielder (loan deal wanted)
Martin Montoya - 25-year-old right-back with 2 years left on his contract
Alex Song - 28-year-old midfielder with 1 year left on his contract

Tello wants to stay at Fiorentina where he has been on loan since January and seem an upturn in his form. Naturally having found a league that he performs in, after two poor years at Porto on loan. He wants to stay and Fiorentina want to keep him. At the moment though they are not willing to meet the Barcelona asking price of just £6.82-million (€8m - AUS$11.69m - US$8.82m).

Fiorentina want to take him on loan for a further season with an option to buy, which may have something to do with complying with Financial Fair Play rules. That is generally now why clubs loan a player for a year and then buy them. If they can't have a loan then they want a lower transfer fee.

He has until July 19 to sort out his future, then he'll be getting stuck into pre-season training. He has turned down Liverpool and Swansea City. We are the latest club to talk to his agent, but whether we can convince him to give up his desire to return to Italy is another matter.
