CAM and WA or CAM or a WA?

TRANSFER TALK

Tottenham are looking for a central attacking midfielder and a wide attacker, but are we looking for both or one or the other?

Everyone seems to assume that if we buy a wide attacker that Nacer Chadli will have to be sold or Alex Pritchard. On the right we have Erik Lamela, backed up by Son Heung-min and Clinton Njie. On the left we have Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli and Alex Pritchard.

We don't know how Pochettino rates Njie, last ITK was that he was unsure about him, but he has had injury problems. It seems unlikely that we need a wide attacker for the right, unless we want to move Lamela centrally and rotate with Alli.

If we are looking for a wide attacker for the left, then that would allow Eriksen to move centrally and rotate with Alli or for us to bring someone on wide and move him central during games. We need, at times, someone who can unlock teams centrally.

Sofaine Boufal plays all three, primarily central, Georginio Wijnaldum plays central or on the left. It will be interesting to see who we make moves for as opposed to being linked to, they are rather different things.

  1. A central creative attacking mid is essential. How many draws should have been wins this season?
Ive always said that once lamela starts creating he and eriksen will be a real handful but as we've seen this season sometimes they need a break, subbed off or one or both just have an off day.
You look at a team like barcelona (who we may have to play next season). Not only do they have the 3 best number 10s in the world in NSM but also have 2 good number 10s playing behind in Rakitic and Iniesta. For us at Spurs we need a number 10 to compete at the top level and with other big teams in the prem being in need of total overhaul, and with us having addressed our squad issues we still have plenty to spend on a number 10, so we should make that our top issue for the next transfer as it is the only weakness in our best starting 11. We had the best defence last season game in game out but struggled to break some defences down and sometimes couldnt be effective when subbing off eriksen or lamela.

  2. I'd go all out for Coric. He isnt the finished article but he is definitely special just in terms of how quickly he reads the game and makes decisions but as his skillset grows he will become very commanding. Looks really special.
Because of prices I would also bring in Calhanoglou or Juan Mata (also like Vasquez but Serie A players usually take time to adapt to the prem) to take strain off Eriksen and Lamela out wide.
We have seen in the Euros that Ben Davies is a very competent 4th choice central defender so if we are to rotate Dembele and Dele Alli in the box to box roles then we'll have one hell of a squad next season.
