Are AZ Alkmaar being economical with the truth

There are differing reports of the same situation from Vincent Janssen and his club AZ Alkmaar, so who is telling the truth?

Speaking to Dutch newspaper Noordhollands Dagblad, AZ Alkmaar Sporting Director Mark Huiberts said Spurs have only submitted one bid and not heard anything more.

"There is a lot of speculation and I read a lot of nonsense stories. We once received a bid from Tottenham Hotspur that we have not accepted. That's not so strange to me. It is not often that a club agrees immediately with a first offer. Then we heard nothing more".

However the player himself, Vincent Janssen, says AZ Alkmaar are refusing to sit down with Tottenham and negotiate after Spurs bid nearly 18m euros.

If you had heard nothing more then why would you pull a player out of TV appearances so he didn't discuss the situation and why didn't Janssen play in the clubs friendly fixture last week? If the situation is as Huiberts says then the club is being run in a very strange way. If there is no discussion or nothing apart from an initial bid then there is nothing to discuss on TV and it could easily be dismissed.

Clearly thta is not the case. It seems Janssen is currently being forced to stay against his will, which in a second tier league  that prevents the player furthering his career could well cause problems.

AZ have, as I reported before, organised his replacement already. Perhaps what he is saying is that they have only received one official bid because the Dutch press have been reporting multiple offers. They do like their ambiguity these sporting directors.

Although his comments in full basically say pay our price if you want our man. Shades of Saido Berahino, who has shown he was clearly overpriced last summer for a player who hasn't actually achieved anything yet. At least Janssen has banged in the goals and started banging them in at international level to.
