Another Alderweireld backup we have been looking at

Mauricio Pochettino needs cover at right centre-back for Toby Alderweireld and that means finding a right-footed centre-back as a left-footed one will go for some balls with the wrong foot, which is when error are more likely to occur. To prevent that you employ a right-footed player on the right side, minimising the risk of error.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is coming through the ranks and has maturity beyond his years. However, the 18-year-old (19 in December) has no experience yet and thus he needs a season training with the first team and playing some cameo roles in preparation for next season. This season it is doubtful he will be used as the number one backup, that would be taking too much of a risk so it is likely someone is brought in. Pochettino will, of course, have a good look at him in pre-season beginning on the Australian tour.

We scout many players and are always on the lookout for players from leagues where we may be able to get a player below market value. It is a tactic Sevilla has used very successfully. That doesn't mean we don't look at the major league. From Italy, we have been keeping an eye of 24-year-old (25 in November) Serbian centre-back Nikola Maksimovic at Torino.

He is reportedly interesting Manchester Unitd, Manchester Citu, West Ham United and Napoli amongst others and Torino are reported to have turned down a bid from the Hammers. The Serb signed a new contract with Torino in December that keeps him under contract there until 2020. As such he isn't going to be cheap and  we will no doubt be looking elsewhere.
