Napoli cloud Vazquez picture

TRANSFER TALK

The transfer of 27-year-old (28 in February) Franco Vazquez, the Argentinian-born Italian attacking midfielder we at Tottenham have been in talks to sign is clouded a little further by the local paper in Naples, Il Mattino.

They reveal that Napoli are also about to hold talks with Palermo and also wish to reduce the asking price of 25 million euros plus add-ons, which does seem a little steep for someone with only about 7 years playing time left. At 30 his value will go down dramatically so he can't really be seen as a financial investment, which, like it or not, is a consideration when buying players.

The paper claims that Vazquez has long expressed his admiration for Napoli ad that the two clubs are willing to meet to discuss a deal. However, they go on to say that it wouldn't be easy to fit him into their 4-3-3 system.

Napoli are only willing to offer 17 million euros which seems a far more realistic figure and one which I would have thought we would also be offering. The article also reveals that Palermo want a percentage of his resale value which isn't something we would want to enter into at his age.

In a separate article, Il Mattino also talk about the AC Milan link and their desire to buy Vazquez.
