Mkhitaryan nothing serious at the moment

Tottenham Hotspur have once again spoken with the agent of 27-year-old (28 in January) Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the attacking midfield player from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. The British press have once again gone overboard and over egged the story to draw some dramatism out of it.

We are being linked with all and sundry, not because we are trying to sign them all, but simply to loo at our options so in the event of any circumstance we then have a direction to turn. It is common practice to talk to all potential options to discover how much wages they are wanting, what sort of fee may be involved, whether they are interested in coming to White Hart Lane, what their other options are, are we first choice or would their signing for us be dependent upon another club deciding not to sign them and so on and so forth.

Both sides then know where they stand and under what circumstances a signing could take place. We will have strikers who know that if we can't sign Morata or a second choice that they are perhaps next on the list.

Both sides will evaluate how long to wait, player generally like to wait later than clubs and agents and all their players to wait until after the European Championships if they are taking part. The same happens for every position

We have various verbal agreements, Jonathan Calleri and Michy Batshuayi are just two, but verbal agreements count for nothing with agents who will happily ask for more money when the time comes.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is just one of a group of attacking midfield players we have been watching and we will sound out., nothing more at this stage. The thoughts from Germany is that despite turning down a contract extension at Borussia Dortmund he is still likely to stay there.

This is no more than an interest story at the moment.
