Janssen fits Pochettino system

Dutch bloggers suggest that Vincent Janssen would be a bargain buy for a Spurs side looking to provide some assistance to Harry Kane.

Janssen was the leading scorer in his first season in the Dutch top flight and has since shown h can cut it at international level, scoring 3 goals in 5 internationals, one against England at Wembley, where he also provided a very nice pass for an assist that showed he has vision as part of his game.

The 22-year-old (23 next June) is strong and well built, attributes needed if a player is to play as a lone target man. Holding the ball up and bringing people into play is an essential part of the role and Janssen can do that. He has excellent hold up play and thanks to his vision an excellent passing range too. Pleasing for many fans he has pace about him too which gives options of balls over the  top or through balls, counter attacks and bursts of speed to get himself in the right positions to score.

Like Harry Kane he can get shots away from seemingly impossible situations. Creating something out of nothing adds to the worry for defenders so he is sure to draw fouls around the box for Christian Eriksen to benefit from.

He appears to have the mental toughness that separates some players from others, he has had to undergo rejection and being sold to a second division club but has bounced back to become the national striker. When he signed for AZ Alkmaar it was as the number two striker but the main striker left and Janssen had to step up to the plate. He struggled, went through a goalscoring drought and ended up as the league's golden boot winner. That shows a work ethic and a determination to improve, exactly what we are looking for in a potential signing.

The 1.80m (5' 11") striker will fit into Mauricio Pochettino's system as a direct replacement for Kane, we won't have to alter our style much, if at all, to accommodate him. Janssen understands Kane is the number one and he has no problem with rotating, unlike some who want a guarantee they will play most games. He has belief in himself and his abilities, I think he will b an exciting signing, I think we have unearthed one here.

Other clubs were very reluctant to take a chance on Christian Eriksen and he hasn't done too bad. One more season of success and Janssen's price will catapult, now is the time to get him, even if h has only one year of top flight football.
