Spurs linked, Saints wanted Praet likely to go to Fiorentina

Another youngster we have been tracking looks like he will end up in Italy and reject the overtures from Southampton, who are reported to have offered £10 million (€12.93m - US$14.51m) for Dennis Praet.

Spurs linked, Saints wanted Praet likely to go to Fiorentina

He is a 22-year-old (23 in May) Belgian attacking midfielder playing in the Belgian Pro League for Anderlecht, who finished second to runaway winners Club Brugge.

Apart from Southampton, Leicester City has been mentioned, as they will be with everyone now. Reports from Italy though suggest Fiorentina are doing everything they can to sign him.

Paulo Sousa is a former Portuguese footballer who played as a defensive midfielder, and was part of the countries 'golden generation', now he is the coach of Italian club ACF Fiorentina. Sousa has personally phoned Praet twice to try to convince him to go to Italy. That certainly shows the player that he is not only interested but goes the extra distance to convince him he will have an important role to play.

It is thought that they have come to an agreement but the stumbling block is the fee. Roma and Anderlecht are said to be £1.55 million (€2m - US$2.24m) apart at the moment. The move is said to be really close to being finalised.

  1. There are no reports saying Saints have offered anything. Just that they are planning to make an offer. Agent and media driven nonsense. Probably a trap that Saints are setting for Spurs in the hope they sign more junk like Son and NJie
