Spurs chasing striker in Columbia

Tottenham have been keeping tabs on19-year-old (20 in September) Columbian striker Marlos Moreno, who Liverpool have made approaches for.

He plays as a striker, although he can play wide as well, for Atlético Nacional who are one of the strongest Colombian clubs., in fact, they won their 15th league title in 2015. They are also one time winners of the Copa Libertadores, which is basically the Champions League of South America. Atlético Nacional are based in Medellín to a capacity crowd of 44, 765 and play. in the Categoría Primera A.
Naciona have not made the decision whether to sell or not yet. President Juan Carlos De La Cuesta says an "extraordinary" offer will have to be made for Moreno, how often do we hear that these days.

"So far there is no a transfer, but there is interest. We want to be responsible with the institution and see how everything evolves.
"It would be an extraordinary offer to consider selling him, but we know how the market dynamics. If there is a good offer, we will have to consider it. With Benfica there have been a few approaches but no formal offer."

The Portuguese press reveal that in addition to Benfica, Porto are also interested in Moreno. Portugal is a common route for South American players who can be part bought with third party owner still retaining an interest in a player. The route is that they make a name for themselves there and then make a big money move so their investors get a healthy return.

French interest comes from PSG and Italian interest comes in the shape of Inter Milan, who are particularly keen and also can take players with third party ownership, unlike Premier League clubs, and Bologna, plus one other. From Germany Bayer Leverkusen have expressed their interest. The 'extraordinary' offer is thought to actually be £7.12 million (9m EUR).

His agent, Samuel Eladio Tamayo, confirmed to the Italian press that there is interest in his client.

“All South American players have a dream, which is to play in Europ. We are working to ensure the lad’s dream does come true. Marlos has been compared to Tino Aprilla or Neymar.
"Let’s just say he is similar to Asprilla. He is very quick, able to take men on and good with both feet. We are talking about a future superstar of football. I do want to clarify a few aspects, though. In Europe there are several people talking to clubs about Marlos and they do not have the right to do so. The only ones who can talk about his future are me and Humberto Quiceno.
“We have received offers from several European clubs. We know Inter are in contact with Atletico Nacional. We don’t know the entity of the offer, but can tell you they are interested, as are two other Italian clubs.
“Bayer Leverkusen are also interested and we have received offers from Porto and Benfica. No club is currently leading the pack, but Marlos is 19 years old, so we want somewhere he can play regularly. That is a fundamental condition of any move.”
That last sentence would make it extremely difficult for Tottenham to sign him unless he was loaned out to a club abroad to gain some experience. We continually look and try to sign players from South America, but it is very difficult with third party owners and other clubs being allowed to buy part of a player. Ateltico Madrid are in the EChampions League final nd they are a club allowed to part buy players so although other countries complain about the money in the Premier League they had advantages in other ways.
