Is Niguez agent using Spurs to get a pay rise

To continue the look at players Spurs are considering, I turn attention to 21-year-old (22 in November) Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder Saul Niguez.

Our Spanish head scout for the Iberian peninsula, José Lozano, whose remit is the Under-18 and Under-21 age range as well as first-team players, will have suggested Niguez. He is a versatile central midfielder and a Spanish Under-21 international.

Manchester United, Manchester City, and Barcelona have all been linked with a move for the player who has played central midfield, right midfield, left midfield, defensive midfield and attacking midfield this season.

The reported figures being thrown at this story are questionable with the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror suggesting Spanish reports say we have offered him £6 million-a-year after tax. Quite frankly that is ridiculous, it would be £115,384-a-week after tax. If it were euros, as you would expect from a Spanish paper it would be £4.74 million, a weekly wage of £91,058 after tax.

The figures sound like complete invention and the story smacks of a player's agent angling to get a hefty pay rise from his employers.
