Fans calling for too many changes

Tottenham have qualified for the UEFA Champions League, not through the back door but straight into the group stages and the weekend will see whether we can round off the season by finishing second.

You all know that, but I write that to remind you. Why? Because if you look around the forums everyone seems to want to throw a successful formula out the window and spend, spend, spend again. We ned to strengthen, but we don't need to fix what isn't broken.

Revolution is not the answer, evolution is. We have to keep what we have and simply build upon it. There are certain things we do know. Federico Fazio will be leaving so we need a right-footed back-up centre-back. With Champions League football to play we are going to need someone who can cover in the Premier League and cup games.

We have cover for Vertonghen in Kevin Wimmer, we have cover for Danny Rose in Ben Davies and cover for Kyle Walker in Kieran Trippier. In goal, Michel Vorm provides cover for Hugo lloris. The jury is out amongst fans as to his suitability for the role. There are plenty of stories of us watching goalkeepers so are the club convinced by him?

Moving into midfield we don't really know what Pochettino thinks of everyone. Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele are the first choice pair. Nabil Bentaleb is discontented if reports are correct, he seems to have a disagreement over his injury. He looked to have a promising career at Tottenham and he has often spoken of his love for the club for giving him his chance. Will we be parting company this summer? Pochettino doesn't keep players who do not toe the line, Adebayor, Lennon, Kaboul, Capoue and Townsend all had things to say, all have left.

If he goes then we need a player to cover for Dier. Lassana Diarra is being spoken about. The Frenchman is outside our age band but he comes with plenty of experience and our youngsters may just need some of that at certain stages of the Champions League. You wouldn't want to move Mousa Dembele to that position even though he can play it well, he is too valuable alongside as the link man.

Understudy to Dembele is a player the fans have generally decided needs to move on, Ryan Mason. Pochettino likes him and he isn't the liability the short sighted are portraying him as. He was first  choice at the start of the season until his injury. There will be plenty of games he can play i next season so he is unlikely to be leaving.

Tom Carroll is the unknown, defensively he is weak. he was given plenty of opportunity this season to show what he could do and towards the end of the season he remained on the bench. Does that suggest Pochettino has made his mind up about him and he'll be leaving? It is unlike us to let a player leave for nothing, Caroll's contract runs out at the end of June.

What we don't need is a turnover of players and a new bunch having to learn our system and get used to playing with the established players. Changing Bentaleb, Carroll and Mason would simply be too much. Two maybe, but not all three.

Ahead in attack we need help for Harry Kane and it is clear we are looking for another goalscorer. We have had plenty who don't score goals and plenty who do score goals, just not for us. Then we have the attacking midfielders, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Eric lamela are nailed on for next season. Nacer Chadli has proven himself in the Premier League so although a section like to complain hge may well be going nowhere as well.

One player who I hear we are undecided about is Clinton Njie. he has had an injury hit season which hasn't helped but when I have seen him he lacks the composure in front of goal. he is quick, he makes a beeline for the goal, but I'm struggling to think of a shot on target. He did make a cross for an assist I recall, but his positive impact has been few and far between. He is young and needs to develop, but he wouldn't be the first player we have decided hasn't got what we thought he may have. Benjamin Stambouli didn't progress as we had hoped, is Njie going to be another? We are looking at wide players.

1 Centre-back (right-footed)
1 Defensive midfield
1 Link midfield (can play defensive midfield)
1 Wide attacker (can play central as well)
1 Striker (can play central attacking midfield also)

That is quite enough to be changing to the squad so let's not start calling to rip up what has got us this far so quickly.
