Dembele heads for Germany next season

Ousmane Dembele is a target for Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Liverpool, Leicester City and Arsenal amongst other clubs.

Dembele heads for Germany next season

Claudio Ranieri phoned him personally to ask him to go to Leicester City but he turned them down telling Ranieri that he already knew where he would be playing next season.

Looking at the situation logically that can only really be Borussia Dortmund who met Rennes officials a couple of weeks ago to thrash out a transfer fee after in principle terms were agreed with the player's agent.

The 21-year-old wide man or central attacking midfielder will, like most players want to play UEFA Champions League football if possible and Liverpool, the club being linked lately can't offer that, they may not even be able to offer European football. For a player who wants to make his way in the game he needs to be in the public consciousness on a European scale and if he has aspirations of playing for France at full international level, he is currently an Under-21 international, then he'll need to be playing European football. French manager Didier Deschamps has made that clear.

With Liverpool not guaranteed of football and Dembele knowing where he is playing that rules them out, he has turned down Leicester City, Manchester United will be able to offer UEFA Europa League football at best, which from the UK leaves Tottenham and Arsenal.

The fact that Dortmund have already qualified for the Champions League group stages and officials of the club are known to have net Rennes officials to discuss a fee, it seems pretty obvious Dembele is off to Germany next season.

Our attentions will have to turn elsewhere.
