Christoph Kramer joining Borussia Mönchengladbach

Tottenham scouted and were linked with a move for German international defensive midfielder Christoph Kramer before Mauricio Pochettino decided he could save the club some money by turning Eric Dier into a defensive midfielder.

Dier was not a stranger to the role, he had played there at Sporting Lisbon so it isn't a huge surprise that he is a success in the role.

Borussia Mönchengladbach has lost an important component with their captain and midfield heartbeat Granit Xhaka moving to Arsenal for £34.21 million (€45m - US$50.02m - AUS$69.62m). Their candidate list to replace him is long and is topped by 25-year-old Sebastian Rode of Bayern Munich.

Christoph Kramer joining Borussia Mönchengladbach

There are very strong rumours in Germany that Christoph Kramer, who has been on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach for two seasons from Bayer Leverkusen, will return to the club from Mönchengladbach in theNorth Rhine-Westphaliato region on a permanent basis.

He still has a contract until 2019 and would cost £7.6 million (€10m - US$11.12m - AUS$15.47m) German reports say. Thanks to the Granit Xhaka sale Borussia Mönchengladbach have funds and they are in the play-off round of the Champions League so qualification for that would make more money available.

If they do qualify the move would make sense for Kramer.
