London Football Awards 2016:

Recognising the very best of London football

Tottenham players Kane, Alli, Dier, Lloris alongside Pochettino have been nominated for awards at the 2016 London Football Awards on March 3 at Battersea Evolution, London. The winners will be announced at the event, hosted by Sky Sports’ Max Rushden, and raising funds for national charity, Willow.

The five Spurs’ stars are nominated for four out of the eight awards. Harry Kane, who attended the 2015 London Football Awards to accept his Young Player of the Year award, is nominated for Premier League Player of the Year. This year Dele Alli and team mate Eric Dier are up for the Young Player award. Mauricio Pochettino is up against Wenger, Flores and Bilic for Manager of the year. Hugo Lloris is nominated for the London Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Other awards include Football League Player of the Year, Women’s Player of the Year, London Community Project of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to London Football.

Past Tottenham winners, most of whom have attended the Awards, are: Harry Kane (London Young Player of the Year 2015); Jimmy Greaves (Best Goal Scorer 2013); Pat Jennings OBE (Bert Trautmann Goalkeeper Award 2014); Ledley King (Club Legend 2014); Gary Mabbutt (Willow Award 2013).

Nominees and winners of the awards have been selected by an expert judging panel from the worlds of football and media, from former players to major footballing bodies, and sports media, including Sky Sports, The Times, Evening Standard and talkSPORT.

The Awards will mark the 50th anniversary year of England’s 1966 World Cup win, with a host of memorabilia, including the match ball, from the National Football Museum on display. ’66 legend, Sir Geoff Hurst, will also be attending on the night. As will current England Manager Roy Hodgson, who says:

“The London Football Awards is an event I am always very pleased and honoured to attend. It’s a great celebration of London Football and also a fantastic opportunity to be able to support a wonderful charity like Willow; and Bob and Megs who have worked so hard over the years.”

London Football Awards will raise much needed funds for Willow – a national charity that provides unique and positive Special Days for seriously ill 16 to 40-year-olds.  Willow was founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper and sports presenter, Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs and in memory of their daughter, Anna, who died of cancer aged just 31. To date Willow has fulfilled more than 12,000 Special Days for young people living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, motor neurone disease, muscular dystrophy, organ failure and Huntington’s Disease.

Standard tickets to the London Football Awards, including pre-dinner drinks and a three-course meal, cost £200 per person.  Tables of ten are available for £2,000, Premium tables cost £3,000 and Legend Tables (for ten guests plus a legend) cost £5,000.
