We have only ever played 1 premier League game on this day, a 2-0 defeat of Fulham at White Hart Lane. Our first game was against Albion in 1884, a home friendly we lost 1-0. Our first competitive game was a 5-0 victory over London Welsh in the 1st Round of the London Senior Cup.

1929Jack Elkes equals the highest number of goals scored against Notts. County in a match with two strikes. Inside left Elkes played for Spurs between 1023-1929 scoring 49 goals in 100 appearances. He made 2 England squads but remained uncapped.
1931Centre-half Alf Messer nets his final Spurs goal, he netted 2 in 51 appearances for us.
1946Charlie Whitchurch's scores his first goal for the club. He scoed 2 goals in 8 games after joining from West Ham United. In 1947 he played for Southend United.
1953Fred Massey, half back/inside right 1907-1909, dies. He made 1 appearance for us in the 1908/09 season.
1957Biggest home crowd for a match against Chelsea = 66,398
1969Albert Evans, centre forward 1927-1929, dies. He played 5 games for us after joining from Woking. He played for Grantham Town after Spurs.
1980Swindon Town's biggest crowd for a visit of Tottenham Hotspur = 26,000
1991This match equalled the highest number of goals in the encounters between Spurs and Oxford United, while the star of the show Paul Gascoigne joined a number of players who had scored twice against The U's - the highest number of goals by a player in a match against them.
It was all watched by Tottenham's biggest home crowd against Oxford United = 31,665
1995Vic Buckingham, defensive midfielder/wing-half 1935-1949, dies. He joined us from our nursery club Northfleet United in 1935, left in 1949 and went into management. He managed FC Barcelona in 1970.
2005Spurs under Martin Jol sign Mounir El Hamdaoui, from Excelsior Rotterdam. He never played a competitive match for us. Mido signed on loan for 18 months from AS Roma. he eventually joined on a permanent deal.
