Townsend to Newcastle at last

Andros Townsend finally appears to be on his way, not on loan as he wants but on a permanent transfer to his preferred destination, Newcastle United who will pay him £40,000-a-week as reported previously.

Newcastle offer Townsend £40K

The Guardian say Newcastle United have finally agreed a fee of £12-million, others are suggesting it is £10.5-million. The reports suggest that a medical will be taking place today. Townend was playing for Tottenham Under-21 side last night so presumably Newcastle were happy for him to get the game time to work on his fitness.

Last night Sky Sports and Newcastle sources were claiming no fee has yet been agreed, although it was very close.

Andros himself steered clear of answering questions about the move, although he has posted what appears to be a farewell message.

"Been an absolute pleasure playing with the u21 boys the last 3 or 4 months!"

I'm sure a move will happen. As usual there has been a game being played through the media with both sides negotiating a fee that suits. Reports claim Newcastle were dropping interest to try and force Spurs to lower the price while quite frankly anything over £8-million must be considered a good return for the disappointing England international. We can't complain at a £12-million fee for him, I'd be happy with that.
