Sevilla will only buy Fazio with Champions League qualification

With Jan Vertonghen injured what is the future for Federico Fazio? He has been given time to prove himself but showed against Arsenal earlier in the season in the League Cup tie that there were too many errors in his game.

Since then he has been sidelined by Pochettino and doesn't even make the matchday squads now. Jan Vertonghen is now injured and presumably, Kevin Wimmer will step into his shoes, that means that Fazio could well remain at Spurs if Sevilla don't change their stance. It could be that Pochettino isn't going to use him regardless in which case the stand-off remains the same.

Sevilla believe we will cave in and let them have the deal they want, a loan, which isn't much use to us without a guaranteed transfer.

If we send him on loan and Sevilla do not make the UEFA Champions League then they would simply return him to us with six months of his contract used up. That contract ends in 2018 so he would definitely need to be sold in the summer or he'll start to decrease in value further.

This one still has all the hallmarks of going to the last day. Andrew Gaffney lives in Spain and translates Spanish papers so is the man to ask for Spanish transfers. he invited questions and was asked about Fazio. The following are his Tweets in reply.

A brief update on Fazio via . Sevilla refuse to match Spurs' asking price & insist on loan + certain clauses to make it permanent.

Clauses include 'qualify for the CL'. Spurs told Sevilla they have other offers on the table but the player wants Sevilla move.
