Ben Yedder to sign for Marseille?

Tottenham are reported to have bid for 25-year-old (26 in August) striker Wassam Ben Yedder, a player we have been following for a while.

'Wissam Ben Yedder is 24 and thought to be a target of Barcelona with his contract running until 2017. He has scored 7 goals in 13 Ligue 1 games having scored 11 goals in the last 17 league games last season.'

That was back in November 2014 so he is a highly thought of player who has perhaps not fulfilled his potential. His record suggests he is prone to spells where he doesn't score, although this season he has 7 goals and 3 assists in 18 french league games. He also has 5 goals in 3 French league cup games and 1 goal in 1 French cup game. In total 13 goals in and 3 assists in 22 games for the former French Under-21 international.

He has scored in five French league games this season, he scored in the first game against Sainte-Etienne and then didn't score for another 11 games, plus 3 he sat on the bench for. He then scored 6 in 6 games, including a hat-trick.

Last season he scored 14 goals in 36 French League games plus 5 assists. He scored in the first two, didn't score for three, scored in the next four, didn't score for three before scoring again. That made 7 goals in 13 games, a decent enough start to the season. It took him 12 games, plus one on the bench, to bag another goal when he went on another scoring spell. That goal against PSG started a run of 7 goals in the remaining 12 games, plus one on the bench.

He is known to have interested Roma, who tried to buy him, AC Milan, Fiorentina, Sevilla and in October 2014 he spoke to the press about the interest from Barcelona, confirming that he wants to move to a big club one day. Tottenham are a bigger club than Toulouse and are growing in stature in the Premier League with a new stadium that could help us match a few richer clubs off the field financially.

As you will no doubt have read French Football are reporting we have bid £6.12-million (US$10.91m - AUS$12.73m - €8m) which includes the usual performance-related add-ons, while Toulouse president Olivier Sadran is holding out for £7.65-million (US$8.73m - AUS$15.01m - €10m) and would prefer to keep him until the summer.

Whether he wants a different payment structure wasn't mentioned. The idea of loaning him back for the rest of the season doesn't look an option either as Spurs could do with a striker now preferably.

An interesting aside is that he recently scored against Marseille and refused to celebrate amid reports he is going to sign for them. The two clubs have been locked in talks for over a month now and his agent, Meissa Ndiaye, is very close to the president of Olympique Marseille, Vincent Labrune I wouldn't be counting my chickens that he is an imminent signing just yet as Sadran is reported to be a stubborn man. On the positive side, Yedder does want to leave, although he isn't unhappy at the club his coach, Dominique Arribagé, reports.
