Tom Carroll not to blame

It is important when you suffer a defeat not to seek a scapegoat in the manner the British press and supporters tend to. By all means highlight areas for improvement, but remember it is a team game and there are many factors that go into a result.

Fear breeds mistakes, it is limiting. A player who fears a backlash from the press or fans will play within themselves to avoid mistakes, but that makes them a weaker component within the team. If a player makes a mistake he needs a reassuring pat on the back so it minimises festering.

I haven't bothered to read the articles, but the headlines seem to have decided that Tom Carroll is the scapegoat for a defeat. The fact ought to be pointed out that we were winning while he was on the field and only conceded two goals after he went off so associated with the defeat is stretching a point. I'm no Tom Carroll fan, he has passing ability, but telegraphs a lot with his body shape and there are question marks over his mentality enabling him to impose himself on a game.

Whether he is a favourite or not, he wasn't on the field while we conceded the two goals so can in no way be held responsible for either. No club can win every game, panicking when you do shows limited thinking, the very thinking that inhibits success. It's the sort of simpleton thinking you see from the one track minded spend spend spend anti-Levy smattering.

Tom Carroll didn't play badly, he didn't stand out, but neither was he bad and neither was either goal anything to do with him.
