Spurs monitoring midfielders situation

Tottenham and clubs in Europe are monitoring the contract situation of Liverpool youngster Jordan Rossiter. The 18-year-old (19 next March) has failed to agree terms with the Merseyside club to extend his contract that runs out this summer.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo claims Udinese are monitoring the England U-19 international along with Tottenham and Manchester City. European clubs can speak to him in January and would be able to pick him up for a £250,000 compensation fee.

Liverpool journalists talk of him as on of the best young midfielders in the country,. how true that is I don't know, youngsters are often overrated. Currently he is injured until the new year and there is real concern that he would thrive at our academy. He has already started for Liverpool playing three UEFA Europa League ties (totally 182 minutes) and 14 minutes of Premier League football.

To suggest Spurs are about to sign him, as I have seen elsewhere, is wide of the mark, it's a watching interest. We can only hope that our recent record with young, some would say very young, players is the pull that we hope it develops into.

There are reports that we have signed 14 and 15-yar-olds from other clubs because of how we handle youth players. Five or six years ago Arsenal youth were lording it over us, now we have the upper hand and for the last five years have usually beaten them I believe. This is a testament to the players we have coming through and the likes of Harry Kane, Tom Carroll, Josh Onomah, Harry Winks, Luke McGee, Nathan Oduwa and the like.

Every youngster we have breakthrough adds to our appeal for other youth players. Will Rossiter sign for us? Well Liverpool only have one scouser in their ranks so they ought to be doing all they can to keep him. he is one of their own.
