Depoitre breaks barren spell in front of Spurs scout

Depoitre breaks barren spell in front of Spurs scout

Tottenham were scouting this evening in Belgium at the Gent vs Zenit St Petersburg UEFA Champions League game. One of the players we were watching was striker Laurent Depoitre.

After an initial start to the season that saw him score 4 goals in his first 6 games he had hit a barren patch, scoring 2 in the next 17 games. In 5 Champions League games he hadn't scored, tonight he did after 18 minutes.

A perfectly lofted pass from another player Tottenham are watching, Moses Simon, found Laurent Depoitre, who jumped highest and steered a strong close-range header into the right side of the goal.

After 31 minutes Depoitre made himself some space inside the box and unleashed a quick low drive towards the middle of the goal which was well saved by Zenit keeper Juri Lodigin. He was taken off 4 minutes into injury time.

A figure mentioned has been £14-million (US$21.25m - AUS$29.41m - €19.29m) which is unrealistic given his age and lack of top level experience.
