At this stage last season we sat 7th. We had played 19, won 9, drawn 4 and lost 6. We had scored and conceded 24 goals so had a goal difference of 0. In the seasons before:

This season we have a positive goal difference of 18, which at this stage of the season is the best in the Premier League.
For every season the Premier League has been in existence the team with the best goal difference at the end of the season has either won the title or finished second. On 17 occasions they have won the title and on 6 occasions they have finished second.
Now I am not suggesting we will finish 1st or 2nd but at the halfway stage we are right in the mix just 4 points off the top and 1 point off third. In most season we have a poorer goal difference than our rivals which means we have to gain more points than them to beat them. That makes our task that little bit harder. If we only have to get the same points as them, besting them on goal difference we have a little cushion.
