Townsend to play for Under-21 side tomorrow
Andros Townsend didn't make the bench for the Chelsea game and he didn't get on in the away victory at Qarabag either, Josh Onomah was once again preferred.
It seems clear that Onomah is being groomed for next season with plenty of cameo appearances this season to ease him into first team football. It must be remembered that he is only 18 and not 19 until next April.
Dele Alli may have made an impact, but he has been playing regular league football, Onomah has not. Townsend has not grasped the chances he has had to date and you cross Pochettino at your peril. You either buy into what he is doing or you leave and Townsend simply hasn't got his head round his role. His attitude doesn't seem to have changed in 18 months and while Pochettino can not officially say he has no future at Tottenham, it is beginning to appear like that.
If Townsend were to suddenly grasp it though things could change, but I recall his comments a year or so ago that he wouldn't sit on a bench. It seems now he will only play if there are injuries. Compare that to how Tom Carroll has reacted. Not a murmur of discontent, he came on against Qarabag and performed his role well, arguably better than any other brief appearance this season. Hy doing so he is letting Pochettino know he can be trusted to do his job, can Townsend?

There are plenty of stories that Newcastle and Southampton want him, other that we are going to offer him plus cash for Berahino and talk of him seeking another club through his agents. There are plenty of stories of us scouting replacements to add weight to the conclusion he'll be gone at the end of the season if not in January.
