Spurs linked to striker Slimani

Recent reports have connected us with 27-year-old (28 next June) Algerian striker Islam Slimani, but his age would suggest an approach is unlikely. It is reported that we and West Ham United are interested in the Sporting man, even suggesting an approach in January.

Such reports seem fanciful given he only signed a new contract last August tying him to the Portuguese club until 2020 and setting his release clause at £21.09-million (US$32.06m - AUS$45.19m - €30m). This season he has scored 7 goals in 10 Portuguese games with 2 assists.

Crystal Palace are reported by Portuguese news outlet OJogo to have made an £8.79-million (US$13.36m - AUS$18.83m - €12.5m) bid and had it rejected. The report suggest Sporting will negotiate if an offer of £14.06-million (US$21.37m - AUS$30.13m - €20m) is made.

Previously Jackson Martinez was the club striker and we were linked with him, He eventually joined Atletico Madrid for £24.50-million (US$37.25m - AUS$52.50m - €34.86m) and has scored 2 goals in 11 La Liga games although in 8 of those he has played under 60 minutes. What must always be factored in is the standard of the league and the standard of the opposition defence a player is playing against.
