Vertonghen may turn down Barcelona

The noises from Spain are that Barcelona are getting more interested in making a bid for Jan Vertonghen.

They are loikely to lose left-back Adriano and although they have five centre-backs they feel the versatility of Vertonghen would be beneficial. Aymen Abdennour is their first choice but Vertonghen is the back-up option.

He was on a short list of four last summer and there were reports that Barcelona were prepard to bid £17.56 million (€25m) for him then so if they do decide to make a move a similar bid can be expected, not that it is likely to be enough.

With the signing of Toby Alderweireld this summer they will be recreating the partnership they had at Ajax so even if Barcelona do come calling Vertonghen may well feel it best to stay at Spurs.
