Will Jan Vertonghen be captain next year?

Player Assessment: Jan Vertonghen

The next centre-back to look at is Belgian Jan Vertonghen, quite why I called him Dutch earlier I don't know, fazzled brain with too much writing.

Jan Vertonghen

After a 2013/14 season where he gave up, was offered the captaincy we are told and then had the offer removed, a refusal ro sin a new contract and then the season started. Apart from a few crazy moments, one against Chelsea again, he had an excellent season.

He was the most used centre-back

Tottenham will be needing a new captain next season and a goalkeeper is not the ideal person for that, it is extremely difficult for him to get messages to the team and affect play. For that reason it would not surprise me if Tottenham offered the captaincy to Jan Vertonghen, if they do I'd expect him to sign a new contract.

He was gui;ty of trying to play out of the back and not clearing the ball on a couple of occasions and I know rhey are asked to do that but it is down to the individual player to make a judgement call, occasionally oit is wrong.

If he doesn't get the captaincy then I don't see him staying more than one more season, given he can play anywhere.
