19yo Dominic Ball gets an England call

Aidy Boothroyd has called up 19-year-old Dominic Ball into the England U20 squad for the friendly fixture against Romania.

These are a new set of players at Under 20 level where there are no UEFA competitions. There is a FIFA World Cup every 2 years for which teams qualify through their performance at the preceding summer's UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship.

Players who are born on or after 1 January 1995 remain eligible until the end of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

At the last World Cup in 2013 when the side was managed by former Tottenham winger Peter Taylor, now manager at Gillinham, Eric Dier, Alex Pritchard and Harry Kane were in a squad that also included Ross Barkley, Jamaal Lascelles and John Stones.

Aidy Boothroyd England U20 Manager was delighted to be appointed in February to work with the age group.

“These are great experiences for individual players, from which mean both club and country will benefit.
“The match is the beginning of a full programme of international fixtures for this group, finishing with the Toulon Tournament in May.
“Romania have a strong history of producing senior international players from their youth teams, and this game will be a good test for us.
“I am both excited and proud to be working for my country in such an important age group. This current squad has a mixture of talented players with different experiences.”
