Why Sandro is leaving Spurs
Brazilian Sandro is a fans favourite at White Hart Lane but the relationship is coming to a close.
There comes a time in a relationship when it's time to break up, either because one falls out with the other, wants something better or both parties drift apart.
Sandro and Spurs are drifting apart, both recognise the quality of the other but both now have different requirements. The lover spat when Tim Sherwood was Head Coach was just that, a storm in a tea cup, nothing. However it did plant the seed that Sandro wanted to leave.
That seed has clearly grown and his agent quite clearly is selling him around Italy, which presumably is his destination of choice, you'll not there are no stories emanating from Spain about La Liga clubs trying to sign him.
The appointment of Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino signals a slightly new direction for Tottenham. The playing style will be similar, high pressing which we now seem to have to couple with high intensity.
A look at the Southampton system of playing and taking into account the players we are being linked with suggests Sandro is surplus to requirements. I agree with every Spurs fan that he is one of the best at what he does in Europe but next season we will have a slightly different player in his role.

Morgan Schneiderlin (24) is a playmaker turned defensive midfielder who we are looking to sign from Southampton. Milan Badelj (25) is a deep lying playmaking defensive midfielder. We are looking for the new Andres Pirlo and for all his qualities Sandro is not a top quality playmaker, he is a win the ball give it to the playmaker player.
Étienne Capoue (25) and Nabil Bentaleb (19) are more in the mold of the player I suspect we will be using, a player who can sit and win the ball but spray passes to begin attacks. Take a look at this video of another target, 33 year-old Esteban Cambiasso (what a great name), it illustrates the passing Mauricio Pochettino is looking for from the position now.
The range of passing demonstrated is not Sandro's natural game, Bentaleb has shown he can ping a pass and Cambiasso would be tremendous for him to learn from because Bentaleb has it within him to be a serious talent.
Letting the ball do the work rather than the Mousa Dembele style dribbling looks to be the way forward for Spurs midfield next season under Pochettino so much as Spurs fans will try to beg their partner to stay, now it might just be the time to say, it's been fun but it's time to go our separate ways.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is what is fuelling his agent searching for a new Italian club who will pay close to our valuation of him. His contract runs until 2016 so in another year his value drops without the signing of an extension.
A free signing and £16 million for Sandro while we search out another young playmaking defensive midfielder. I suspect that Pochettino is going to develop Bentaleb in that role as well and already have Capoue, who looked a top quality player when he first arrived.
Naturally Spurs will play hard to get but it all points to the love affair being over.
