On this day in Tottenham history in 2009 we won the Premier League Asia Trophy beating Hull City 3-0 in Beijing

Today in 2007 we signed 20-year-old German Under-21 midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng from Hertha Berlin for £5.4 million.

Today in 2006 we sold Michael Carrick to Manchester United for a fee +add-ons totalling £18.6 million.

Today in 1922 White Hart Lane staged London's first open air boxing contest in front of 7,000 fans. Seaman Hall beat Rossi and Bloomfield beat Lloyd. A "comedic boxing match" between Joe Bowker (former World, European & British bantamweight champion) and Wally Packard was also on the card.

On this day we have played 3 international club friendlies, 1FC Cologne (Germany) 1976 L 1-3, GAIS (Sweden) 1988 D 1-1, SS Lazio (Italy) 1993 W 3-2.

Italian reports are suggesting that Roma have dropped their interest in 24-year-old Romanian central defender Vlad Chiriches.

His agent is hawking him around Italy in an attempt to get him into a more suitable league feeling his client hasn't and won't adapt to the Premier League. AC Milan now seem to be the next option. Daniel Levy is trying to get his money back on the player bur nobody is biting at that price after a poor season.

Pochettino's system requites fitness and involves more pressing and attacking than last season and the Andre Villas-Boas version of the system. Lewis Holtby and Brad Friedel thought after the US & Canada tour that the Spurs players will adapt to it well.

"It's a new development in the way we play, but it was very successful at Southampton so I think it's going to get us some places. I think we can develop into this new system very good."
Brad Friedel
"The (tour) was a success and on the training pitch it was a big success. We trained twice a day most days; he's a very demanding manager but also very enjoyable (to work with).
"The style of play changes whenever a manager changes. I think you'll see a lot of pressing, a lot of attacking football, I think you'll see us try to play from the back. You've seen a glimpse here of what we'll try to do."

It seems the player I have been discussing for 2 years on Facebook and this blog for the last year, is finally edging closer to a move to us. On 15th July I reported we were stepping up our pursuit of an Englishman playing in Portugal.

At 6'2" (1.88m) England U21 centre-half Eric Dier has been in Portugal since he was a kid and has been refusing his clubs (Sporting) offers of contracts so they could not insert a £38.02 million buyout clause into a new contract.

The 20-year-old wants Premier League football and may now be getting his wish with Spurs, with negotiations as I write this at an advanced stage. Terms are said to have been agreed with the player and agreement of a fee close, suggested at £3.96 million (€5m).
