Gareth Bale signs Ben Davies

The Gareth Bale factor was the reason Ben Davies chose Spurs over Liverpool. A remark Bale made stuck with Davies and influenced his decision to join. Michel Vorm sought out former player Rafael van der Vaart and he too only had good words to say about Spurs.

Clearly the club is generally well run and players who come here are usually happy, except last season of course. Having former players only say good things about a club helps us to sign other players clearly, players will always talk to players and ask what a club is like.

Ben Davies feels he made the right move and is looking forward to being part of a team that is difficult to beat.

“Gareth always used to say what a good club Tottenham were and how they always looked after him. “That has always stuck with me and is one reason why I decided to make this move.
“People will want to compare me with Gareth but we are different types. He is a huge person to live up to, a superstar.
“I liked what I saw of him at Southampton and the way he got them playing. If the manager can get Tottenham working in a similar way we will be hard to beat, and with the talented players we have in attack it could be a perfect combination.
“It was a huge wrench to leave, but I am certain I have made the right decision.”

The 21-year-old Welsh international told the official site when he joined that this was the club he wanted to be at.

“I’m very happy to be joining a club like Spurs. It was such a good opportunity for me and there was no doubt in my mind about it. It’s a great place to be and something I jumped at the chance of being part of.
“I just want to play as many games as I can this season. My aim is to come in and do my best and work hard under the new gaffer.”

He seems like the same sort of level headed chap that Gareth Bales was and clearly takes his responsibilities as a professional footballer seriously. Whether they like it or not professional footballers are role models and should behave accordingly. Part of that is the work Davies is doing as an Ambassador for Kick It Out and their Next 20 initiative.

The ‘Next 20′ initiative, which launched in October 2013, sees 20 young football stars from across the Premier League, Football League and Women’s Super League (WSL) spread key messages of equality and inclusion. Ben Davies is a Kick It Out ‘Next 20’ ambassador.

“I think it’s a vitally important component in our society at the moment to get Kick It Out’s message across to young people.”

A welcome addition to the Spurs family and one to look forward to seeing more of against Celtic in Finland on August 2nd in our next pre-season friendly.

Cardiff City’s Declan John is a rival for the Wales left-back slot with Davies and he has no doubts his rival will be a success at Tottenham.

“Ben is a fantastic player and he’ll do really well for Spurs. We’ve shared a room on Wales trips and I know him well.
“He isn’t much older than me, but he has shown over the last two or three years playing Premier League football for Swansea that he has real quality. We were each given a chance by our clubs and were able to make an impact.
“Swansea are a very good footballing team and Ben’s playing style suits that. It was easy to understand why a number of top clubs wanted to sign him.”

Hopefully Ben Davies will have nothing but good to say about our club too.
